A career healthcare provider, a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves, a state legislator, and a community leader, Mark Hollo has spent a lifetime serving and helping his fellow citizens.
Mark earned a B.S. degree from Southern Illinois University in 1980 and is a graduate of the Physician Assistant Program of Bowman-Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University in 1983. Following his graduation from the Bowman-Gray School of Medicine he served as a primary care provider at Litchfield Family Practice Center from 1983-1990. In 1990, Mark moved to North Carolina, and later became a partner and co-owner of Family Care Center in Taylorsville, NC. He currently works at Urgent Care of Mountain View's Newton location.
Mark also served his country for five years as a Physician Assistant in the United States Air Force Reserves where he was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Captain.
Mark also has had the privilege of serving 3 terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives. He served from 2005-2006 and again from 2011-2014. During his tenure in the NC House, Mark spent much time and effort toward bettering the healthcare policies of the state. He served as Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services, the Health and Human Services Policy Committee, the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services, and the Joint Legislative Oversight Subcommittee on Medical Examiners. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Legislative Ethics Committee, as a Vice-Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, and served on the Homeland Security/Military/Veteran Affairs Committee, the Justus Warren Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention Task Force, and the House Select Committee on Certificate of Need Process & Other Related Hospital Issues.
Despite the amount of time Mark has dedicated to helping his neighbors with their medical problems and serving in uniform, he also made time to serve as volunteer leader in his local community and in his profession. Mark has served on the Alexander County Head Start Program Policy Board, Alexander County Community Child Protection Team, and the Alexander County Education Blue Ribbon Study Committee. He is currently a member of the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants and a Distinguished Fellow member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Mark's work to improve healthcare for all North Carolinians has received recognition from his peers statewide. In 2011, he received the Presidential Award from the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians and in 2012 he received the "Heart of a Friend Advocacy Award" by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
In December of 2016, Governor Pat McCrory awarded Mark the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in honor of his service to our nation in the Air Force Reserves, his service to our state as a legislator, and his service to our community as Physician Assistant and community leader.
Mark and his wife of 40 years, Barbara, currently reside in Conover, NC. They are the proud parents of two sons and grandparents of four wonderful grandchildren. |
