Bio

Mike Motschenbacher is a longtime Bismarck resident, husband, and father. After graduating from college in 1992, he stayed in Bismarck and is proud to call it his home. He has been married to his wife, Buffy, for 21 years and is the proud father of four children- Carson (18), Molly (15), Emily (14) and Zack (11). Mike graduated from Washburn High School in 1990 and from Bismarck State College in 1992 where he received a bachelor's degree in Electronics Technology. At the time, electronics jobs were sparse, so he continued to work at Expressway Inn and Suites where he worked during college. Mike eventually worked his way up to General Manager in 2000 and remained in that position until January of 2021. After nearly 30 years at the hotel, he switched careers and is now the Executive Director of the North Dakota Gaming Alliance. Mike has been very active within the Republican party since 2000. His first venture into politics was helping to unseat three incumbent Democrats and elect three Republicans in District 32 in Bismarck. In 2005, he moved to Northwest Bismarck and joined District 47 Republicans where he has been a card-carrying member of the party ever since. He has enjoyed helping in the district all these years to continue to help Republicans maintain their stronghold in the district. He has always done whatever is needed of him, whether it be marching in parades, helping organize golf tournaments and other fundraisers, or helping plan a picnic. Mike has always had a passion for politics and has advocated for people to get involved. He ran for Bismarck City Commission on two separate occasions in 2006 and 2014 and continues to be active in city politics as well as state politics. He is constantly communicating with elected officials at both the city and state level. This past legislative session, he was a lobbyist for the North Dakota Gaming Alliance in addition to being their Executive Director. Mike's goals in the legislature would be to continue to lower both personal and corporate income taxes. He will prioritize building a strong workforce in the state and do whatever it takes to attract good hard-working families to North Dakota. He also is a strong advocate for safe places to live and work. He is tough on crime and believes greatly in promoting a strong family environment. He believes greatly in Republican principles and will work hard to continue making North Dakota a great place to be.
