Bio

Hometown Edinburg, ND Affiliation Republican About North Dakota District 10 Senator Biography Janne Myrdal, a native of Norway now a U.S. citizen, has been involved in public policy issues since the early 1980's. Having grown up in a family who experienced dire hardship during the Nazi occupation of Norway in World War II, she was raised with a keen awareness of the freedoms her generation was given. And she learned at an early age that freedom and justice does not just "happen" but has to be protected and fought for at all times. After completing her education in Norway, she worked with Youth With A Mission, an International Christian missions and relief organization, from 1981 to 1993. This took her to relief and orphanage assistance work in Central America, international inner city work amongst drug addicts and prostitutes in Europe and the U.S., and pro-life/adoption work in the U.S. She met and married Mark Myrdal and moved to North Dakota in 1994, where she worked as the Co-Director of the Pregnancy Help Center in Park River, North Dakota, (1997 - 2009), reaching several North Dakota counties, as well as migrant worker communities, with assistance programs such as providing clothing, peer counseling, and teaching healthy choices programs. She has been engaged in community activities like ecotourism projects, the Rendezvous Region Bird Club, assisted in numerous political campaigns, both local, state and nationwide. She has written blogs for national policy websites as well as been featured in Washington Times, CPAC and several national publications. Janne spent most recently almost ten years as State Director for Concerned Women for America (CWA) of North Dakota. CWA is the nation's largest public policy women's organization. The core issues of CWA include national sovereignty, sanctity of human life, family, education, religious liberty, and fighting human trafficking and pornography. Janne's non- profit activities involved work on state as well as federal issues, including policy expertise, research, lobbying, public speaking, legislative studies and volunteer coordination. With numerous visits to Congress, media appearances and grass roots activism, as well as extended work during North Dakota's Legislative sessions this past decade, her knowledge on a wide variety of policy issues combined with her extensive grassroots work and engagement in many NDGOP campaigns makes her leadership a strong contender for ND Senate. Janne strongly advocates that core action to keep America and its' values on course with Constitutional principles happens first and foremost at the grassroots level! Janne Myrdal is in her second term on the School Board at the Valley Edinburg school district, and has a passion for making North Dakota the best K-12 education in the nation. "I think we have great communities, great families and kids. Along with our state being fiscally sound and the values we hold, I see no reason why North Dakota's kids should not lead the nation in math, science and language/arts" says Myrdal. "It is a goal we need to work across all boundaries to accomplish." She, along with her husband and three children, live near Edinburg, where they operate a family farm, growing a variety of crops like wheat, barley, dry beans, sunflowers, Canola and soybeans. "Being a farmer's wife and a mom in rural America teaches you the importance of self-reliance and the value of hard work" says Janne who also raises and shows American Quarter horses as a hobby.
