Bio

Elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2016, Senator Lynne Walz brought with her a myriad of applicable experience. Senator Walz graduated from Arlington High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts from Midland College in elementary education with a coaching endorsement. She subsequently taught fourth and fifth grade in both Fremont Public Schools and Archbishop Bergan Catholic School. She loved teaching! Working with students, parents, and other teachers was one of the best experiences in her life. She credits the experience with teaching her many life lessons that impacted who she is today, especially respecting people regardless of their situation and encouraging others to reach their goals. Prior to her time as an elementary school teacher, Senator Walz worked many years for Encor and Bethphage (currently Mosaic) in Fremont as a direct care staff member, manager, coordinator and administrator. She is currently a realtor with Don Peterson & Associates. During her first two years in the Nebraska Legislature, Senator Walz served on the Education and the Natural Resources Committee. For the 2019-20 biennium, Senator Walz served as the Vice-Chair of the Education Committee and a member of the Health and Human Services (HHS) Committee. Following her re-election to the Legislature in 2020, Senator Walz was elected by her peers to serve as the Chairwoman of the Education Committee, an honor that she has embraced wholeheartedly to support students and educators across the state! She continues to also serve as a member of the HHS Committee. Senator Walz resides in her hometown of Fremont, Nebraska with her husband Chris Walz. They are the proud parents of three children and five grandchildren. She actively volunteers in the community and her church. She is a former member of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce Board, the Low Income Ministry Board, the Archbishop Bergan School Board in Fremont, the Salem Lutheran Church Council, and Kiwanis. She is the past president of the Fremont Board of Realtors, and a former volunteer with the Salem Lutheran Church Children's Ministry.
