| Assemblyman Anthony S. Verrelli has been committed to helping others his entire life. An unapologetic advocate for New Jersey's working-class families, he believes that everyone deserves a second chance and an opportunity to succeed.
Raised in Trenton and Lawrence Township by Italian and Scottish immigrants to the United States, Assemblyman Verrelli graduated from Notre Dame High School before attending the Sam F. Secretario Carpenters Training Center.
In 1989, he became a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America and remained a union member for over 30 years. As a union carpenter, he served as a senior council representative, team leader, trustee for the Northeast Carpenter Funds, and president of Carpenters Local Union 254. During his career in the trades, Anthony fought for fair wages and strong health benefits for his union members. After a brief retirement, he now serves as Executive Director of the Mercer County Improvement Authority.
He began his career in public service in 2001 when he became a member of the Ewing Township Zoning Board of Adjustments, on which he served until 2004. He was a member of the Mercer County Planning Board from 2004 to 2008 and the Mercer County Improvement Authority from 2008 to 2016.
From 2016 to 2018 he served in his first elected position on the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders (now called Board of County Commissioners). Since August of 2018, he has served the people of New Jersey by representing the Fifteenth Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly. He was reelected by his constituents to serve his first full term in the Assembly in November of 2019 and subsequently reelected in 2021 and 2023.
A champion of increasing the minimum wage and protecting the rights of striking workers, Assemblyman Verrelli is known for his staunch advocacy for working people in New Jersey. Throughout his tenure in the legislature, he has led the charge for bills that improve and expand access to physical and mental healthcare-including addiction and substance abuse services-as well as reentry services. In pursuing these policies and others, Asm. Verrelli has helped reduce recidivism, protect veterans, seniors, children, and vulnerable populations, promote economic justice, and ensure clean air and water for all.
Assemblyman Verrelli is chair of the Assembly Labor Committee, Vice-Chair of the Assembly Public Safety & Preparedness Committee, and sits as a member of the Assembly Health Committee.
Since 2010 he has been a proud member of the Hopewell Township Knights of Columbus. Currently, he resides in Pennington Borough with his wife, Donna, daughter, Alyssa and parents, Georgina and Freddie. |
