| Assemblyman Gary S. Schaer was elected to the NJ General Assembly in November 2005 and currently serves as the Policy Chair of the Assembly. He is the Vice Chair of the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee, a member of the Appropriations and Budget Committees, and a member of the NJ-Israel Commission. When he took office in 2006, he became the first Orthodox Jew elected to the New Jersey State Legislature.
He also currently serves as the Council President for the City of Passaic for which he has been a Councilman for the past 29 years. Previously he has served as Passaic's Acting Mayor. After attending American University, Assemblyman Schaer worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years. He has served as a Commissioner for the Passaic Housing Authority, a Commissioner on the Board of Education for Passaic County Technical Institute, and as a trustee of St. Mary's Hospital in Passaic. He is currently the Executive Director of the Passaic County Improvement Authority.
Assemblyman Schaer has been a longtime advocate for labor and education reforms, environmental justice, property tax reform, and funding for educational institutions in New Jersey. |
