Bio

A businessman and farmer, Danny Verdin serves the people of South Carolina as State Senator for Laurens and southern Greenville counties. Danny and his wife Kim (Owens) married shortly after Danny graduated from Bob Jones University. In 1986, Danny agreed to become Agriculture and Natural Resources Advisor to Governor Carroll Campbell. Three years later, Danny came back home and opened his business serving the needs of Laurens county farmers and homeowners. Two years ago, he and Kim made another big investment in their hometown and opened a second business on the square in Laurens called Verdin's Too, selling ornamentals and home accessories. Danny and Kim have raised their family in Laurens where they own and operate Verdin's Farm & Garden Center. They have four adult children and one grandchild. Faith is important to Danny. He and Kim are active members of Faith Free Presbyterian Church and he has been twice honored by the Palmetto Family Council as "Senate Legislative Champion." In the Senate Danny has been a conservative leader on issues from pro-life to fiscal responsibility. In 2008 and 2012 he was honored with the "Friend of the Taxpayer Award" by the South Carolina Taxpayers Association. Danny is devoted to the promotion of agriculture, South Carolina's number one industry. With a strong belief that traditional farmers are the backbone of our society, Danny has been an enduring advocate of deregulation for South Carolina farms and small producers. He is a member of the Laurens County Cattlemen's Association, Hickory Tavern Young Farmers, Historical Pendleton Farmers Society, and the Mountville Grange. He served as Honorary Chair for the 2009 State 4-H Congress. The South Carolina Agricultural Educators Association honored him with the John W. Parris Agricultural Leadership Award that same year. From 2007 to 2018, Danny chaired the Senate's Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. Last year, he accepted a new position as chairman of the Senate's Medical Affairs Committee.
