This program delivers cash prizes to middle and high school teachers for creative and inspirational lesson plans. This is a joint venture with the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education, which rewards those grade 6-12 teachers who surmount limited resources and challenging situations to inspire students. Targeting under-served populations, 400 students must qualify for a free or reduced school lunch in project schools. Annually, the program awards some 400 teachers $2,500 each for a winning lesson plan or thematic unit, notable for their creativity and fidelity to the highest academic standards. Any academic or vocational-technical subject is appropriate. Contact: Judy Hodgson, NFIE (202) 822-7832; email jhodgson@nea.org
