Story Date: 6/19/2014

Dear Clemson Friends,

On Wednesday afternoon, June 18, the South Carolina Senate finalized action on Governor Haley's budget vetoes related to Clemson PSA.  The House finished their work on the vetoes on Tuesday, June 17.

I cannot overemphasize our gratitude for your service and dedication in support of Clemson and Clemson PSA.  We are reminded every day how special it is to be part of the Clemson family.  Your volunteer service as a Clemson Advocate pays dividends to our University and the state as a whole, time and time again.

Below are the final tallies and roll call votes for each veto:

All vetoes are positions associated with Clemson PSA's Emerging Farmers initiative and Precision Agriculture initiative.  You may see how your legislators voted on each veto by clicking on the "roll call vote" links below.  A "yes" (or "aye") vote is a vote to override.  A "no" vote is a vote to sustain.

As a recap, the state budget for FY2014-15 contains the following for Clemson University:

Clemson E&G
-      $1 million in recurring funding for Student Career Opportunity Programs (on-campus internships)
-      $200,000 in recurring funding for Focus on Student Success (increasing 4-year graduation rates)
-      $1,118,674 in nonrecurring funding for critical electrical upgrades
-      $1,630,142 in lottery funding as the pro rata share for critical equipment repair and replacement for higher education institutions

Clemson PSA
-      $500,000 in recurring funding for the Agribusiness and Emerging Farmers Extension program
-      $250,000 in recurring funding for Precision Agriculture and Environmental Technology Research
-      $3 million in nonrecurring funding for Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Equipment

Also included is a 2% cost of living pay increase for state employees.

The budget includes an increase in the cost of health insurance for state employees, which will be paid by the state.  Under this plan, state employees would see a small co-pay increase.

We will continue to keep you updated through the summer and fall.
