Lander freezes tuition for 9th year
From staff reports May 2, 2024

Lander University students won’t have their tuition rates increase after the university’s board of trustees voted to keep tuition frozen for a ninth consecutive year.

At Tuesday’s board meeting, trustees unanimously voted to keep tuition at $10,700 a year for full-time, in-state students, according to a news release. The school’s general fees will stay at $1,000 a year as well, for the eighth year.

“Our students should be able to focus on developing the knowledge and skills they need to compete in today’s workforce,” said Don Scott, board chairman. “We are proud of the high-quality, affordable education the students receive at Lander University.”

Alongside the tuition freeze, the board agreed to increase the cost of staying in campus residence halls by 3.5%. Meal plans, contracted through Aramark, are tied to the Consumer Price Index. The cost for meal plans is scheduled to increase by 6%.

In Lander’s fall 2023 semester, the university had 4,365 students, which was a 5% increase from the previous year. Since 2015, the student population has grown about 62%.

“We want our students to put their time and energy into earning a degree that can help them launch successful careers or go on to graduate school,” said Richard Cosentino, Lander president. “Keeping tuition steady helps our students maintain that focus.”
