Want to see the SC Supreme Court in action? For 2 days it’ll hear cases at Clemson University. By Avery Beaton 3 hrs ago CLEMSON — The state Supreme Court will hear cases at Clemson University, part of an effort to increase awareness and understanding of the state judicial system.
The two-day sessions are Sept. 15-16 at the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts.
The court typically meets in Columbia, but sessions have been held publicly across the state this year, including Presbyterian College in the spring. This lets South Carolinians attend hearings without traveling to the state capital.
“Clemson University is honored to welcome the Supreme Court of South Carolina to campus,” said Gary Clary, a retired circuit court judge and former lawmaker. “Hosting the state’s highest court reflects Clemson’s commitment to civic engagement alongside experiential learning. This provides students and the public with an extraordinary opportunity to witness the judicial process in action.”
The court currently has four justices: Chief Justice John W. Kittredge and Associate Justices George C. James Jr., D. Garrison Hill and Letitia H. Verdin.
Cases to be heard include a nonprofit challenging over whether the governor has authority to deploy the S.C. National Guard to Washington, D.C., and a former officeholder who wants records in a family court proceeding to stay sealed.

Sessions, which start at 10 a.m. each day, are free and open to the public with pre-registration. Designated parking will be available on campus.
