What tools do you need in your Math Toolkit?  

                                       Instructional Toolkits is to help Make Sense of Math!

The key strategies presented in the Modules will provide you and your students with a variety of opportunities needed to develop mathematical thinkers and problem solvers.

Below is the menu of sessions for K-2, 3-5 Math Teachers.

The Modules are for teachers that were unable to attend last year or for teachers that would like a review.

You may select only the Modules that best fit you and your students' needs!

Module 1: What does a Math Instructional Framework Look Like?

Topics: 

  • Daily Routines: The use of math vocabulary, Number Talks, etc.
  • First 20 Days of the Math Instructional Framework or Math Workshop.
  • Math Instructional Framework: Workshop and Guided Math –Organizing and maximizing math small group time and Math Lesson Cycle- Beginning- Middle-End 
  • Ideas for Purposeful Planning using data and grouping students.
  • Student Self-Assessment and Basic Facts.
  • Practice and “Make and Take” Activities for partners or small groups.

Module 2: Exploring Task and FALS?

Topics: 

  • Exploring Math Tasks that are grade specific
  • GADOE Tasks Three Act Tasks
  • Formative Assessment Lessons (FAL)
  • Analyzing student work

  • Singapore Math Strategies
  • Number Bonds, Branching and Problem Solving Strategies
  • Look and Talk
  • Model Bar Drawings/Tape Diagrams
  • Problem Solving Situations/Structure (Cognitive Guided Instruction) and Constructed Response
  • Basic Fact and computation strategies
  • Make and Take
