Sweet potato crop somewhat topsy-turvy in 2016-17

U.S. sweet potato production has increased substantially over the last 15 years. The 2016-17 harvested crop was a mixed bag from state to state, and even between regions within states. In early October, Hurricane Matthew dumped over one foot of rain within about a 24-hour period in various locations across North Carolina, and havoc also hindered Louisiana's sweet potato crop.
