Altria Group buys Nat Sherman parent company

A privately held tobacco manufacturer, Sherman Group Holdings LLC, has been sold to Altria Group Inc., giving it a potential rival for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in the super-premium category. Sherman Group is the parent company of Nat Sherman, which makes super-premium cigarettes in a 40,000-square-foot plant near Piedmont Triad International Airport. Its premium cigars are made in the Dominican Republic and packaged in Greensboro.
