Hanes Dye & Finishing Co. faces a possible fine from state regulators after a dye that killed 100 to 200 fish in Peters Creek last week, according to a letter released by the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality. The letter, addressed to Dan Johnson, the branch manager of the plant at 600 W. Northwest Blvd., says fines can amount to $25,000 per day for violations of the type that took place at the plant, but he doesn’t say how big a fine may be proposed for the company.
