Winston-Salem could declare itself 'welcoming' to immigrants, refugees

Winston-Salem could declare itself a “welcoming city” for refugees and immigrants -- regardless of their citizenship status -- if a resolution put forward Tuesday gains steam. Council Member Dan Besse made his proposal at Tuesday’s general government committee meeting in response to calls from some people to declare Winston-Salem a “sanctuary city” for people living in the U.S. illegally.
