When Sen. Jay Chaudhuri, D-Wake, took office office last year, he became the first Indian-American to serve in the North Carolina General Assembly. Chaudhuri, who replaced former state Sen. Josh Stein when he resigned to run for attorney general, won election in his own right in November. He says his experience as the son of immigrants will shape how he votes on legislation.
