Along with a lot of tree fruits, strawberries and blueberries, the region’s beleaguered wheat crop also took a hit during last week’s freezing temperatures. Executive Director of North Carolina Small Grain Growers Association says it will be early next week before growers can fully assess the damage: “It’s just a lot of things…it depends on the earliness of the variety, and how early they planted it, and then how many hours the temperature was below 27."
