Like most farmers, Stefan Hartmann wrestles with the occasional unwanted visitor. This time around, the intruder is a type of maggot that's burrowed into a row of tender spinach seedlings. It's just the latest insult piled on top of the chest-high floodwaters that submerged his land during Hurricane Matthew in October. "In the real world, they would treat the seed with a pesticide," Hartmann said. "We're organic so we can't do that. And it's very hard to get seed that isn't treated."
