A massive solar farm near Hope Mills is turning the sun’s rays into enough electricity to power about 25,000 homes.
The 78.5 megawatt solar farm became fully operational Dec. 15 under a power purchase agreement between Duke Energy and Cypress Creek Renewables, which owns the facility, according to Jeff McKay, a company spokesman. Cypress Creek, which has offices in Asheville and Carrboro, owns more than four gigawatts of solar farms in 15 states that produce enough electricity for nearly a million homes, according to its website.
