The wet and cold 2016 planting season reminded us all about the fragility of cotton seed and the difficulty in establishing an adequate stand when Mother Nature is not cooperative.  Although it was somewhat abnormal for adverse planting conditions to last throughout most of the planting window as observed in 2016, we can expect to encounter short periods of less-than-optimal conditions at some point throughout our planting window in most years in NC.
