Smithfield Foods has announced a series of donations around the country: • The company’s Helping Hungry Homes initiative joined forces with B&R Stores, the parent company of Russ’s Market and Super Saver, to donate more than 30,000 pounds of protein to Food Bank of Lincoln, Neb. • The program also allowed the company to join forces with Lowes Foods to donate more than 40,000 pounds of protein to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. • Food Lion Feeds and Smithfield Foods announced a partnership and donation of fresh and non-perishable food items to local families in Augusta, Ga., as well. The companies provided 100 Easter meal bags containing an assortment of fresh and private-brand grocery items, and 100 Smithfield hams to local families. Each family has been pre-selected by Golden Harvest Food Bank, which serves more than 200,000 people who are food insecure across northeast Georgia and southwest South Carolina. • In partnership with Hy-Vee, Smithfield donated more than 25,000 pounds of protein to Food Bank for the Heartland in Omaha, Neb., to help fight hunger across Nebraska and western Iowa. • In partnership with Homeland Stores, Smithfield’s Helping Hungry Homes initiative donated more than 35,000 pounds of protein to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to help Oklahomans affected by wildfires. • Joining forces with Randalls, Smithfield donated more than 35,000 pounds of protein to the Central Texas Food Bank in Austin. • The company also donated more than 25,000 pounds of protein to Northwest Arkansas Food Bank in Bethel Heights, Ark. • In conjunction with Winn-Dixie and Aric Almirola with Richard Petty Motorsports, Smithfield donated 60,000 pounds of protein to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida in Orlando, and in partnership with Winn-Dixie, donated 30,000 pounds of protein to Feeding Northeast Florida in Jacksonville.
