Strawberry anthracnose research

In the fall of 2016, Jose Guillermo Chacon-Jimenez, “Memo” started his PhD at NC State University. He is working with Gina Fernandez and Frank Louws on a breeding project that will be looking at hemibiotrophic resistance to anthracnose caused by C. gleosporoides (crown rot) and C. acutatum (fruit and sometimes crown rot) in strawberry breeding populations. As many of you know, crown and fruit anthracnose are two of the most significant diseases in strawberry in our region.
