Illegal immigration summons a host of contradictions in thoughtful people, including my friend, who I won’t name precisely because his heart and mind are in different places. He believes the rule of law is the foundation of the American experiment. Clear rules, forged by democracy and applied to all, is what has allowed people from far-flung places to come here and prosper in peace.
