The N.C. Board of Agriculture will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, on the second floor of the Scott Building at the State Fairgrounds.

Board members will hear updates on the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ budget requests and legislation affecting agriculture that the General Assembly might consider during its 2008 session, which begins May 13.

The board also will consider a request from the N.C. Cattlemen’s Association to conduct a referendum among cattle producers for an assessment on cattle marketed in North Carolina. The association would use the money to promote the N.C. cattle industry.

The Board of Agriculture is a policy-making body that adopts regulations for many of the programs administered by the NCDA&CS. Its 10 members are appointed by the governor. The commissioner of agriculture serves as chairman of the board.
