Friends of Tyson Foods lobbyist Matt Mika are raising money to fund his recovery as the 38-year-old continues to improve and is expected to make a full recovery after being shot multiple times in the chest and arm on a baseball field outside of Washington D.C. last week by a lone gunman.

Using the crowd-sourcing website gofundme.com, friends have already raised more than $35,000. To Donate - go to this link

“Matt and his family are stunned by the outpouring of love and support. In less than 24 hours, your contributions helped us surpass our initial goal!” organizers wrote on the website. “Although Matt has been incredibly strong, the road to recovery is going to be long and will require not only love and prayers, but also financial support from friends, family, the Washington DC community, and beyond. Contributions of any amount will go a long way to ease the undeserved burden on both Matt and his family. The assistance Matt and his family needs is increasing by the day, so any contribution is greatly appreciated.”

Mika was shot on June 14 by a gunman unhappy with the outcome of the presidential election who also wounded House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.); Zack Barth, a legislative correspondent who works for Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas); and two members of the Capitol Police who protect congressional members.

An avid baseball player and Detroit Tiger's fan, Mika was volunteering as a team coach at a practice in preparation for a charity baseball game.

Mika’s family said last week he has been awake and alert and able to communicate through written notes.
