Almost one year ago, two businesses in Topsail Beach became the first on the island to install solar panels, and so far they’ve produced enough electricity to power nearly 57 homes for a month, according to a news release. Topsail Island Trading Co. and The Gift Basket owners Grier and Kristin Fleischhauer decided to install roof-mounted solar panels in July 2016 after learning about solar energy from other residents.
