A federal judge has granted class-action status to a lawsuit filed by workers from an Oscar Mayer plant in Madison, Wis.

The employees contend Kraft Foods Inc., parent of Oscar Mayer, should pay for time spent donning and doffing protective gear.

Current and former hourly workers employed at the facility since May 2004 are eligible to join the suit, according to the Associated Press.

The employee group currently includes about 1,000 people.
