Tyson Foods Inc. has announced it will cut about 190 jobs at its poultry processing complex in Glen Allen, Va.

The changes will take effect in the middle of June and affect deboning and packaging jobs.

"This project is part of an ongoing effort to optimize the use of our poultry plants by ensuring we're producing the right mix of products to meet the needs of our customers," Donnie King, group vice president of operations for Tyson Foods, said in a statement. "Unfortunately, it also involves the difficult process of eliminating some positions. We will be taking steps to help those [employees] who are losing their jobs."

Workers will continue to receive pay and benefits for 60 days, and Tyson is encouraging those affected to apply for positions at other Tyson facilities.

The Glen Allen complex, which includes a processing plant, feed mill and hatchery, currently employees about 800 workers.
