The Wake Forest Innovation Quarter, if you haven’t had occasion to spend time in it, is a spectacular site on a Monday morning. Commuters stroll and hustle into new-age jobs in high-tech, open-air office space. Construction crews, always present somewhere in these few square blocks, were at it again, working to transform the buildings from an original purpose — producing the cigarettes that put Winston-Salem onto the world map — to new ones that provide jobs that civic leaders hope will keep us there.
