Base acres becoming the hot potato of the new farm bill

Whether to update acreage bases and what to do with generic base have become some of the hottest issues in the new farm bill which is due to be written to replace the Agricultural Act of 2914 in 2018. The peanut industry isn’t exempt because not all of the current peanut farmers have acreage bases equal to what they’ve been planting, and the issue has caused some divisiveness within grower organizations.
