Area peach growers who lost 35 percent of their crops during a three-day freeze last March may be eligible for federally financed emergency loans. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, a native of the “peach state” of Georgia, this week declared Richmond and six neighboring counties eligible for disaster-assistance loans as a result of a “frost and freeze” March 16-18.
