North Carolina sweet potato leader Carson Barnes dies at 82

Carson Barnes, a driving force in the North Carolina sweet potato industry, died Aug. 20. He was 82.
Barnes began farming in 1960 with three-eighths of an acre of sweet potatoes and eight acres tobacco. His company, Barnes Farming Corp., has grown to become one of the larger sweet potato grower-shippers in the country,
