Dredging clears Carolina Beach Inlet

A pair of metal arms on the Army Corps of Engineers Dredge Murden reached into the depths of Carolina Beach Inlet Friday, vacuuming up sand and sea water. Throughout the morning the dredge gathered enough sand to fill 50 dump trucks and sprayed it into its metal basin. Then the hull opened and dumped its payload -- depositing an hour’s work in seconds.
