Walmart Canada announced it is launching an online grocery pickup service with seven locations beginning this month, allowing consumers to shop for their groceries online on Walmart.ca, and have it ready to pick up. The move is the latest by Walmart as it seeks to go head to head with Amazon for grocery dollars.

Customers can choose a location and a time slot, then pull into a designated online grocery pickup parking spot, call the assigned phone line and their order will be brought out to them and loaded into their vehicle.

''We know our customers want to save money and time, without compromising on the quality of their food products. For us, it is essential that our customers have a convenient and easy shopping experience that meets their expectations and fits their lifestyle'', said Cyrille Ballereau, vice president of Operations for Eastern Canada at Walmart Canada.

The new Online Grocery Pickup service allows consumers to choose from a wide selection of grocery items at Walmart, including fresh meat and produce. Grocery pickup is a free service and consumers will be able to order up to 21 days in advance.

Among the fresh meat products Walmart Canada offers are Canadian Angus beef, Maple Leaf chicken, pork and sausages, and Canadian salmon.

Walmart Canada operates a growing chain of more than 400 stores, serving nearly 1.2 million consumers.
