GMO that’s not a GMO: Monsanto’s rootworm-fighting corn seed uses RNA interference

In June, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registered four Monsanto-produced “SMARTSTAX PRO” products, aimed at controlling corn rootworm. This usually isn’t a big deal. But in this case, the products’ ability to control corn rootworm is based on a ribonucleic acid interference technology (RNAi).
