A Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) grant was awarded to the Smithfield Agronomics Program to fund NRCS-EQIP projects in Duplin, Greene, Lenoir, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, and Wayne Counties. The funds are for grain growers in the seven counties interested in implementing conservation tillage, cover crops, or nutrient management practices. RCPP funds go to farmers through the typical Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) enrollment process, but through a separate pool. This method means farmers may be more likely to receive funding. Farmers are not required to have any business relationship with Smithfield in order to participate. To sign up for RCPP funding, visit your local NRCS office by the Nov. 15 deadline. Contact: Keith Larick, NCFB Natural Resources Director, (919) 987-1257.
