Community members joined the Broad River Alliance and three other Western North Carolinian Waterkeepers, including the French Broad Riverkeeper, in holding a paddle protest of Duke Energy’s Cliffside Power Plant (James E Rogers Energy Complex) Oct. 14. Community members paddled a short section of the Broad River in kayaks to the front of Duke’s Cliffside plant, and took a picture with large banners reading “Protect Our Water, Move Your Ash!” to protest the company’s unceasing pollution of the Broad River with toxic coal ash.
