The 2011 Food Safety Modernization Act updated U.S. food regulation and for the first time outlined regulations for fruit and vegetable farmers. Some of the FSMA regulations will impact small farm owners and processors who have served as the foundation for the expanding local foods movement. In order to identify and understand the unique needs of producers demanded by the FSMA, the Local Food Safety Cooperative has launched a national needs assessment survey for growers, food processers, food packers and aggregators.
