National Spinning Company is shutting down an eastern North Carolina plant, citing in its notice to the state “ongoing challenges” in the textile industry. In the document, dated Nov. 1, chairman and CEO James Chesnutt wrote that the Beulaville plant closure will result in 152 layoffs, effective Dec. 31. “The decision to close the Beulaville plant is not a reflection of the workforce, but rather a result of ongoing challenges in the economy and particularly in textile markets,” according to the notice, provided to Triangle Business Journal by the N.C. Department of Commerce.
