A vast 600-acre property near Southport looks like any other vacant land. It’s empty, save for grass, brush, trees and signs warning people not to trespass. Yet millions have been invested in this property with unfulfilled plans and an uncertain future.
The N.C. State Ports Authority has owned the property for 11 years, purchased for $30 million with the intention of building a megaport.
