Employee motivation is an effective supervisory tool. Motivation can be something as simple as a “thank you,” to an employee appreciation lunch. 1. Providing opportunities for training and growth give employees an opening to lead and take ownership of their duties. 2. Discipline Do’s: privately discipline unacceptable behavior, suggest changes in behaviors, engage the employee in solving the problem, and document the disciplinary action. 3. Discipline Don’ts: publically discipline, jump to a conclusions, scream, lose your temper or use profanity. 4. Have a disciplinary model that increase employee consequences based on the severity of the employee’s unacceptable behavior.
