Early-morning fire closes Raeford plant

An early morning fire at the House of Raeford poultry plant in Mocksville, N.C., has closed the further-processing facility until further notice, the company said in a statement.T

he fire broke out before 3 a.m., when employees were on site, the company said. They told the local media they had heard an explosion of some sort and found the roof on fire when they went to investigate. The cause, however, has not yet been determined, and the company is evaluating the extent of the damage.

No one was injured and, although there was a chemical leak at the plant, as well, no employees or nearby residents were evacuated.

Plant employees will be paid their normal wage until further notice. House of Raeford said that it does not expect major supply disruptions to customers.
