The interest in growing industrial hemp in western North Carolina in 2018 is very high! In response to all the phone calls and emails coming in about the subject, we decided to hold an information exchange session in early February. This will be an opportunity for you to meet Emily Febles, the NC Industrial Hemp Program manager, researchers and extension personnel working with industrial hemp, established and new growers, and companies interested in having farmers produce for or with them.

When: Thursday, February 8, 2018 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Where: Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center, 455 Research Drive, Mills River, NC 28759

Who is organizing this: Jeanine Davis and Margaret Bloomquist, Department of Horticultural Science, NC State University.

What will be presented and discussed: Information will be provided on industrial hemp production, national and state regulations, applying for the NC industrial hemp pilot program, 2017 research findings, and insight into the growing NC industry for 2018. Ample time for Q&A and discussion will follow.

Who should attend: Current industrial hemp pilot program growers and licensees, prospective industrial hemp growers in western NC, representatives of the WNC industrial hemp industry, and NC industrial hemp research and extension personnel.

Purpose of the meeting: 2018 is year two for the Industrial Hemp Pilot Program in NC. This meeting was organized in response to increased interest from growers, local companies, national companies with interest in WNC, and other stakeholders in WNC.

Speakers to date include: Emily Febles, NC Industrial Hemp Program Manager;
Jeanine Davis, Associate Professor and Extension Specialist, NCSU; Mountain Research Station Staff, 2017 Industrial Hemp Pilot Program growers and processors from WNC and beyond.
