Ag industry requests exemption from EPA emissions reporting

Farm groups on Wednesday told the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee that producers shouldn't have to comply with an EPA regulation requiring that hazardous chemical emissions be tracked and reported. Farmers and ranchers are worried they'll be hit with large penalties if their estimates aren't correct, even though there isn't a widely accepted methodology for calculating emissions from livestock and fertilizer. Producers also are concerned that their personal information will be exposed as part of complying with the law, leaving them vulnerable to environmental activists.
