Hundreds of people including rabbis, Hispanic immigrants and activists rallied Sunday outside the Agriprocessors meatpacking plant in Postville, Iowa, according to published reports.

A march had been organized to protest working conditions at the plant and call for legislation to provide legal status to illegal immigrants. The rabbis also called attention to proposals to revise kosher food certification to include standards of corporate ethics and worker treatment.

A counterprotest, organized by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, voiced opposition to illegal immigrants and proposals to grant them legal status.

Agriprocessors, owned and operated by Aaron Rubashkin and his family, was raided by immigration authorities in May.
