Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross laid out tariff proposals that President Trump could use to restrict steel and aluminum imports. One of these proposals calls for a 24 percent tariff on all foreign steel imports, impacting allies such as Canada, the European Union and Mexico, as well as China and other suppliers. The department was tasked by Trump to study possible ways to restrict imports of steel and aluminum to defend national security interests. The investigations have raised world and domestic concerns, with fears of retaliation from trading partners. NASDA will continue monitoring tariff proposals and any adverse effects they may pose to the agriculture industry.
