Board of Agriculture to meet March 1 in Chapel Hill

The N.C. Board of Agriculture will meet Thursday, March 1, at 1:30 p.m. at the Stan Adams Training Center in Chapel Hill.

The board will take up the following items:
• Approval of revisions to the imported fire ant quarantine. 
• Review and initial approval of expiring rules of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Topic areas include plant protection, fertilizer, animal welfare section and sanitation of bedding. 
• Adoption of rules pertaining to food safety, including the Produce Safety Rule as part of the federal Food Safety Modernization Act, and Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-based Preventative Controls for Human Food. 
• Hear a legislative update/preview. 
• In addition, new board member Ray Allen will be sworn in. 

About the Board of Agriculture
The Board of Agriculture is a policymaking body that adopts regulations for many of the programs administered by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Members are appointed by the governor. The commissioner of agriculture serves as chairman of the board.
