A new contract between workers belonging to the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union and officials at Tyson Foods' poultry processing plant in Shelbyville, Tenn., eliminates Labor Day as a paid holiday in favor of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr, according to published reports.

The union said the change was made to accommodate the hundreds of Muslim workers at the facility. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.

A Tyson spokesman said the contract still includes eight paid holidays, the same number as the old contract.
