The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) has released the latest version of its benchmarking requirements that are designed to cover the entire supply chain and improving auditor competency.

The new document outlines what makes “a good food safety system” and sets standards for food safety certification programs, the Consumer Goods Forum said in a news release.

The new benchmark is the result of a year of work by a task force comprised of representatives from GFSI-recognized Certification Program Owners (COPs), accreditation and certified bodies and the wider food industry.

The GFSI also has released an update to its Technical Equivalence documents used by public government-owned programs, which now include a formal published process and technical requirements aligned to the organization’s general benchmarks.
